GI Effects Stool Testing in San Antonio, TX

Your gut microorganisms are codependent on one another, as well as their human host – that’s you. The health of one affects the others. If you’re experiencing problems with your gut, the issue may be an out-of-balance microbiome, and a GI Microbiome Profile, also known as GI mapping, may help identify what’s at the root of your gastrointestinal (GI) complaints.

Are you thinking about getting a stool profile – and hesitating because you’ve done stool tests before and didn’t get the results you expected? Or any results at all? Unfortunately, not all testing labs are created equal, nor are the tests they administer.

At the Wellness and Aesthetics Medical Center in San Antonio, TX, we offer the most up-to-date testing evaluation and treatment methods to effectively and safely nurture your health and wellness, including your GI tract, or gut. There are a host of medical complications and conditions that come with an unhealthy gut, including conditions that extend well beyond your GI health.

Whatever is at the root of your gut issues – and at any age – if you are suffering from a disordered GI system, we can help. If you are ready to try Genova Diagnostics GI Effects Stool Testing, call and speak with one of our specialists at (210) 985-1700 or contact us online today!

What is the GI Effects® Comprehensive Test?

To assist in managing gastrointestinal health, the GI Effects® Comprehensive Profile test from Genova Diagnostics is a group of advanced stool tests that are designed to assess your:

      • Digestive function
      • Intestinal inflammation
      • Microbiome

It provides a gut health test analysis, as well as an analysis of your digestion, absorption, immune function and inflammation levels.

The GI Effects Comprehensive Test can reveal critical information about the root causes of your GI symptoms, including constipation, diarrhea, gas, bloating, indigestion or abdominal pain. The GI Comprehensive test can be invaluable in evaluating patients with a clinical history that suggests a gastrointestinal infection, parasites or dysbiosis.

What makes GI Effects® the best choice?

This testing methodology provides a comprehensive assessment of complete gut health, assessing the root cause of most GI complaints. Genova Diagnostics’ combination of culture, PCR and microscopic testing methods ensures all relevant microorganisms are identified. Data-driven analysis is based on the Genova database of hundreds of thousands of complete stool profiles.

Several biomarkers are analyzed to define your individual diagnosis. For example, fecal calprotectin is studied to differentiate between IBD and IBS.

The test offers options for many “add-on” markers, allowing you to personalize testing, and comes complete with its patient-friendly report. For additional metrics of inflammation, you can add on specific bacteria tests such as H. pylori, Cdiff, Lactoferrin or a Zonulin assessment. It also includes an analysis of short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs) produced by bacteria in your colon, providing a unique perspective on beneficial bacteria producing butyrate, which is known to enhance gut and overall health.

Why Choose 1 Day vs. 3 Day Collection?

The test has a 3-day version, and it is also available as a 1-day test. The choice of either 1 or 3-day collection is based on the potential of a parasitic infection. If low or no likelihood of parasites, a one-day sample will likely be adequate. If there is high suspicion, a 3-day sample collection is optimal.

What is the Difference Between the GI Effects Fundamental and GI Effects Comprehensive Test?

This comprehensive version of the GI Effects testing protocol now can synthesize its findings into a unique proprietary scoring system, referred to as Functional Imbalance Scores. These scores can help direct treatment recommendations.

Together, we can prioritize test findings and treatment based on your score severity, tracking your scores over time.

The biomarkers are grouped and scored in five key areas of GI function, including maldigestion, inflammation, dysbiosis, metabolite imbalance and infection. The report provides the results of the biomarkers analyzed, grouped, and scored in those five key areas. This information is used to develop strategic interventions, including lifestyle changes, targeted dietary regimens and supplementation, among other options to address the findings.

In order to assess microbiome status and prioritize treatment areas, these new enhancements allow for easier, quicker interpretation.

      FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQs)

What Type of Sample is Needed to Complete the GI Effects® Test?

A stool sample collected over three days is typically required for the test, unless the one-day test is selected. Stool samples are shipped to the lab for sample analysis. Genova Diagnostics provides clear information to patients for sample collection. If taking antibiotics, antiparasitics, antifungals, or probiotic supplements, it is recommended that patients wait for a minimum of 14 days after the last dose before commencing the test. At least 28 days may be preferred after antibiotics.

How long will it take to get back my results?

Results are generally released to your provider 7-17 days after the lab receives the samples. You will receive an email notification when your results are ready. It's important to schedule time with your healthcare provider to review the results and discuss a treatment plan.

How will my treatment plan be developed?

After reviewing the results of your GI Effects test, your provider will tailor a treatment plan for you. Taking into consideration your medical condition, age and the root cause of your health issues, we tailor a treatment plan to address your specific needs. Our team at the Wellness and Aesthetics Medical Center takes the time to listen and understand your concerns and, most importantly, we can help you plan and achieve all of your wellness goals – not just GI complaints but your overall health and wellness concerns and goals.
